PLANT MCINTOSH EMPLOYEES REACH 11-YEAR SAFETY MILESTONE

ANDALUSIA, ALA. – The employees at PowerSouth’s McIntosh Power Plant in McIntosh, Ala., reached an impressive 11-year safety milestone on April 19, logging 309,687 safe working hours since the plant became operational in 1998.

The plant’s 14 full-time employees worked 30,924 safe hours in the last year alone.

At a celebratory luncheon on May 26, Gary Smith, PowerSouth President and CEO, applauded the employee’s commitment to safety, challenging them to continue their safety record in the year to come.

“Although you have a tremendous safety record here at the McIntosh plant, things will be changing soon,” Smith said. “More contractors will be on site as we begin working on the new generating units. I urge you to look out for each other during this process.”

Smith was referring to the construction of two natural gas-fired simple-cycle units, which began in early June. The units should be operational by December 2010, adding 360 megawatts of peaking capacity to PowerSouth’s system — enough to power approximately 6,000 homes.

Lee Davis, McIntosh Plant Manager, thanked the employees for their hard work, saying the achievement was a team effort.

“I am fortunate to work with some of the greatest employees — employees who take safety seriously,” Davis said. “I commend each of you for your continued efforts to work in a safe manner.”

“It is evident through your safe work practices that you all consider your co-workers as family members”, Smith said.
