PowerSouth employees celebrate another safe year

ANDALUSIA, ALA.– This month PowerSouth’s Transmission and Distribution Engineering Construction Department celebrated a year with no lost-time accidents, equivalent to 57,345 safe working hours.

“Our employees are commended for their commitment to safety,” said PowerSouth President and CEO Gary Smith to employees during a celebratory safety luncheon Jan. 18.“All our corporate values are important, but without safety, reliability and affordability don’t matter much. PowerSouth employees continue to set the standard for safety excellence in our industry. While we are all proud of the safety record, we are even more pleased about the fact our employees go home uninjured to their families every day.”

PowerSouth’s T&D Engineering Construction employees have again proven their awareness and dedication to safety — the company’s number one corporate value. No employee within this group missed work due to an injury suffered on the job.

Sammy Hogg, Transmission and Distribution Engineering and Construction Manager, emphasized the efforts of his coworkers. “I consider it an honor to work with a group that takes safety seriously,” he said.

Transmission and Distribution employees are part of PowerSouth’s Power Delivery Division and carry out the vital role of providing an efficient, reliable system by which PowerSouth delivers power to our distribution members. Safe working practices are crucial to the success of this task, as employees must work in a variety of environments every day. They are faced with risks ranging from heat exhaustion to driving accidents, and back injuries to electric shock.

“Our employees work together to carry out our safety program,” said PowerSouth Safety Manager Buddy Manring. “Our good safety record is only possible through their combined efforts and dedication to working safely.”
