ANDALUSIA, ALA.– The 36th Annual Co-op Couples Conference offered Central Generation Principal Engineer Wes Thomasson and his wife, Abby, the opportunity to learn more about the cooperative way of life in a fun, relaxed environment.
Sponsored by PowerSouth, the Thomassons spent July 25-27 at the Hampton Inn and Suites in Orange Beach, Ala., with 27 other couples from around the state.
“Abby and I sincerely enjoyed our time with everyone from the different cooperatives,” Thomasson said. “I never realized how many different co-ops there are and what they are involved in within our state.”
Thomasson said they learned a great deal about how dairy, farmer, financial and electric cooperatives across Alabama operate, as well as how they benefit us all in everyday life.
“The whole conference was full of speakers from a variety of co-ops across Alabama, which allowed us to understand better what cooperatives mean to our state economy,” he said. “Randy Brannon from Pea River EC did an excellent job answering questions about the issues electric cooperatives are facing, such as rising rates and energy efficiency.”
Outside of the planned sessions, couples enjoyed free time to explore the area and relax away from work and their normal routines.
“With children, it’s sometimes difficult to find time away, so the trip was wonderful for Abby and me to spend time together,” Thomasson said. “I cannot thank PowerSouth enough for sponsoring me, and I definitely encourage other couples to attend the conference. I know they will certainly learn a lot and enjoy themselves.”
