PowerSouth maintains lake levels

ANDALUSIA, ALA. — PowerSouth Energy Cooperative continues a controlled release at Gantt and Point A dams to help manage lake levels.

“PowerSouth will continue to closely monitor conditions on the over the next few days to manage resources,” said Mark Ingram PowerSouth Communication Manager.

PowerSouth controls the operation of the dams at Gantt and Point A lakes on the Conecuh River near Gantt, Ala. As of 4 p.m. today, pool levels were 33.85 feet at Gantt and 40.07 feet at Point A — both below normal levels. PowerSouth maintains 33.80 to 34.30 feet of depth at Gantt Lake, and 40 to 40.50 feet at Point A.

“Residents around the lakes and downstream of Point A dam are reminded that water release schedules often change without notice due to unanticipated changes in weather conditions,” Ingram said. “It is always a good idea for residents around to the lakes to stay abreast of the weather forecast during heavy rains. Lakeside residents and lake users immediately downstream of the dams should take necessary precautions against possible high flows and higher lake levels. Low-lying areas should be avoided. Also avoid downed power lines and contact your local electric provider in the event of a power outage.”
